Book Notes: Lincoln in the World

by Kevin Peraino

This book was not what I expected. I did not find it a "tight narrative" at all, as the description claimed, but instead a meandering collection of information about Lincoln's time and peers. For me, the author's points about Lincoln's diplomatic skills were sometimes lost in all of this elaboration. I did enjoy some of the anecdotes and historical insights, but overall, I confess that I stopped reading about halfway through.

I was provided with a free copy from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.

Dear Kitty

Happy 2nd birthday! You bring joy and balance to our family. Life is going to be very interesting with you in it, I can already tell. You are talking and pottying and getting yourself dressed, in a rush to catch up, just like I was. I want to give you the freedom and space to be yourself, but I see so many echoes of my past as the little sister in your life. Lord, give me perspective and a sense of humor.

You are going through and I-want-Daddy phase and you love anything with feathers or fur. Our twelve puppies are your current delight. You just don't like it when cows moo.

We love you so much, and can't wait to see what this new year brings.

A Change in Trajectory

A small readjustment can have a huge impact over time.

My words for 2015 for my whole family are:

Do what we love.

I love to write. I want more of that and less of Netflix. :)

More science and inventions for Raccoon.

More chickens for Kitty. And all things furry or feathered.

For the King? The jury is still out.
